>tq
I'm assuming you mean lookswise, and not tabletop performance
I know fatcast have fallen out of favour, but I still think castigators are one of the coolest stormcast units. High fantasy equivalent of grenade launchers. Aside from that, I quite like Kragnos
I dunno if it counts since I think Gordrakk is useful, but the generic boss on maw krusha is a favorite of mine. I love the swole dragon (this one is gonna get pink spikes to try and resemble Espinas from MonHun)
I hate trying to figure out what colors to use for highlights. I'm going to be doing some Barak-Zilfin guys, I've decided on Thunderhawk blue as the base for their blue parts. So I'm looking online for other blues or blue/greys to use as a highlight, and this fucking sucks! he pictures on the GW website are made up by someone who had the color of the paint described to them and frequently look nothing like the actual paint.
You look at photos people have taken and the lighting's all weird, or it's someone saying "does anybody know what paints were used here" and then three jackasses to taking wild guesses, or it'll be like, "here's my scheme, first mix up a big pot of four parts Russ grey to one part Lothern blue and two parts Lahmian Medium, make sure to use your Tamiya Mr. Paint Shaker(affiliate link in description)"
The only way to really do it is to physically go to the store and hold the pots next to each other, ass end up, looking back and forth like Mr Burns trying to pick between ketchup and catsup, you look like a fucking idiot, everyone in the store hates you.
It's 8am and already my entire weekend is ruined by this bullshit.
>>96234010Same, but I hate that they never gave them random damage instead of random attacks which doesn't really make any sense?
>>96234026>Espinas from MonHunGood taste
>>96234010It's still funny to me that oldcast literally just used bolters with non functioning crossbow limbs to trick you into thinking otherwise, then people agreed that they used magical strings somehow so it kinda makes sense, then GW fucked it up themselves
>>96233983 (OP)I never see no one speak of the Kharadron Overlords, truth is I am tempted to start collecting them because they look cool
>>96234076I hope to have my first KO models painted this weekend
>>96234076Supposedly Age of Sigmar is slowly dying and losing support. Can you proxy those as anything in 40K?
>>96234076Great models, cool lore. Have fun.
>>96234073different unit tbf and the animated show is a mess
>>96233983 (OP)I love Hobgrot Slittaz, I'd run mono Hobgrots + Sloggoth/Artillery in a PtG league or something if AoS was played locally. Plus I've hoarded like 300 of them
>>96233983 (OP)They're the most overlooked unit both in terms of looks and performance but I actually love the namarti. Eyeless deep sea elves, pure idoneth PEAK-kin.
>>96234110Barak urbaz is now a cool fleet of ships trying to restore their broken deathstar of a skyport. They move up (down in this case) a tier or two.
>>96234073Lel gw really can't get anything right can they.
>>96234110Why is every one of those dudes named Barack?
>>96234124Because they weren't born in the Karak
>>96234115>Plus I've hoarded like 300 of themwhy
>>96234115>300 fucking hobgrotzGood lord man
>>96234127Dominion came with 20 and no one wanted them for whatever reason at the time so they were awfully cheap and I intended to play other games too, so I'd kitbash them into spearmen and such
I got 4 Kruleboyz halves and a tonne more from trades. Every now and again I'd see 20 for a good price and pick them up
How come a skaventide half is like 100 euros? I thought it was supposed to be ridiculously cheap.
Might as well track down the box and get the rulebook with it at that point, AND have the other half left to sell.
>>96234169Jew splitters, all the fair deal splits sold

>>96233983 (OP)Some people don't like them (as a whole) but i feel the aesthetic and result really good. The paint scheme is the only problem.
>>96234169supply and demand bucko.
name underrated army/realm combos. For me its deepkin and shysh. Mor'phann is kino.
>>96234310Ironjawz and Shyish. Kryptboyz never got any love despite the Malign Portents Shyish push. It's funny to imagine an endless war with Ironjawz and the undead
>>96234310They're pretty rad but I feel you're kind of gutting the army by taking such a bland color scheme in one of the most potentially vibrant armies.
>>96234310Shyish has a lot of great subfactions. Kryptboyz ironjaws, Lethis, Ulrung fyreslayers...
I like the CoS in ghyran. You've got the two extremes of the "civilization interacting with nature spectrum", living city going full hippy on the one side, and greywater industrialisation putting chorfs to shame on the other side. Then you've got hammerhal ghyra sort of in the middle I guess. oh and rip to the phoenicium, they were there too
Holy shit Wood Elf bros it's happening! Kurnothi are going to be eating well now!
>>96233983 (OP)Damn, Nagash's ghosts look like THAT!?
>>96234073>String does nothing>Doesn't even shoot the bolt>Somehow has recoilWhat kind of Transformers Armada shit is this? The bolt just shoots a beam? I haven't seen something like this since all the missiles on various Transformers just shot out energy blasts in the cartoon instead of actually firing missiles.
>>96234338>>96234352I fucking love KRYPTBOYZ
>>96234455omg what a controversy, somebody call oprah.
>TQ
Acolytes, I just like painting muscles. Also there are a fair number of bits here, and 20 models for $60 is pretty rare in gws selection
>>96234603As chaff they are not even terrible.
The lack of a Blightking equivalent? Now that's a sin. Specially after the Curseling update.
>>96234076They're really cool, but GW is lazy af with releasing new models for them. Probably the only reason they're not talked about as much.
>>96234679they aren't wasting a major release on the least popular faction.
>>96233983 (OP)>What model that is not widely considered good do you really like?Khorgorath
>>96234711I really hated GW's skull pimple era but besides that it's alright
>>96234603>I just like painting muscles. That's the bit about them that turns me off. I love that they play into a sword & sorcery angle, but I just don't like painting skin.
>>96233983 (OP)>What model that is not widely considered good do you really like?Apparently people were relieved that Helsmiths didn't resemble Horns of Hashut, so the latter
>>96234748those aren't people
>>96234748No such thing. Fiction.
>>96234603Tzeentch is my favorite chaos god, but these dudes alone literally kill any idea of a tzeentch mortal army for me. Theyโre just so ugly and out of place. I unironically would rather only have tzaangors than these guys
>>96234846>Theyโre just so ugly and out of place.tzeetch's entire aesthetic.
>>96234846Spoiler: The army is already full Tzaangors and that's what not you want.
What Tzeentch should have is what the other Chaos Gods have i mean look at Slaanesh, look at Khorne, they have their infantry, their chavalry, some beast unit and the demons. Tzeentch is all beast. I'm still waiting for an unt like pic related
>>96234794Just as the Ungor Herd returned so shall Horns of Hashut insha'Allah they reprint all Warcry cultists like UW this September
>>96234932All they had to do was copy Warhammer Online but I guess that would be like admitting defeat for the ego driven GW sculptors
>>96234846they're a joke about greek philosophers being ripped in depictions
>>96235010I know about phone pictures flipping but why the fuck is this happening on my desktop with this artbook
>>96235010The Loonshrine is stolen from WAR concept art
Acolytes fit perfectly within silver tower but GW ran with the concept regardless of it's inappropriate nature beyond it
>>96235010this. those chads from the online game made a really good work with Tzeentch.
>>96235035>The Loonshrine is stolen from WAR concept artCan someone post this art? I'd like to see it.
>>96235010>>96235025>>96235036A unit of curseling-like mutated warriors would be a good chosen equivalent for tzeentch. Like forsaken but more refined. I wanna say the mutations should look more purposeful, but ig i don't know if that fully matches tzeentch whole deal, somebody more knowledgeable could correct me.
Selfishly I also want some battlemages if they're redoing avolytes at some point.
>>96235062Seconding this
>>96235062I'm looking through the artbook but don't see it. It could be it just wasn't included though.
>>96235281hard to find now the artist removed it from his portfolio
mike daarken lim
>>96235144None of the chaos gods are known for taking any care whatsoever to ensure their mutations are useful. But I guess one could make the case that the difference between chosen and forsaken are basically how much they lucked out in that regard. Especially for Tzeentch, where "no major mutations" really isn't an option.
Are all of you actually painting? The thread is so dead.
>>96235447I just finished airbrushing my Aggradons, gonna do their riders in a sec
>>96235447Do you want me to post my wip of blightkings 80 times in this thread?
Also damn rob has aged
>>96235479>Also damn rob has agedhaven't we all?
>>96235479Yes. I love seeing yโallโs minis
>>96235479He looks like he aged 30 years instead of the 10 it is
>>96235645Nagash has him
Soon
>>96235650Wait he's the square based guy who keeps bragging about being Suggy's bf?
All this time right under my nose.
>>96233983 (OP)>>Thread question:>What model that is not widely considered good do you really like?I had a lot of fun painting the tzaangor from silver tower. It made me wonder what people were fussing about cause they seem cool to me
>>96235281Damn, that's pretty 1 to 1, thanks anon.
>>96235295Yeah, I figured it wouldn't be tzeentch' style exactly. Though you could say that it's kind of a survivorship bias thing, they ended up with the 'good' mutations, making them "chosen", and not the other way around.
>>96235479Very much so anon
>>96235650May morrda guide him
GW is interested in making AoS video games.
Any ideas for Vidyas you want to see?
>>96234997They should do a battalion box with one unit of all the 1ed warcry warbands for std.
>>96235715>Any ideas for Vidyas you want to see?Cultist simulator but AoS.

>>96235645he just got fat like all brits do.
>>96235820Never!
AoS needs a properly good game. Desperately.
>>96235852And creative assembly wonโt be able to provide that

>>96235857>The company that made some of the most successful rts games on the market won't be able to make a good rts gameRetard.
>>96235715Dawn of War 1 style RTS
I could see a four faction MMO but that would need to be such a money sink for not much gain imo
I could see a city builder even, with occasional raids from other factions that Iโve seen with Farthest Frontier
Also an isometric RPG would be fun
Finally, a game set up like Wartales. Thatโd be the best imo
>>96235715how about a mobile gacha slop auto battler that doesn't make it past a year?
this is what GW will approve
>>96235715Literally just for honor in an aos tracksuit
Can even port the whole war system over and use the grand alliances.
>>96235868I'd play the fuck out of an ESO style Age of Sigmar MMO.
>>96235864Popular doesnโt mean good. Total war hasnโt had a good game since they were focused on historicals.
>>96235869>this is what GW will approveYou're under some weird assumption that gw is some selective actor in this conversation, turning down offers that don't meet their specifications
The greater filter is that nobody that's actually planning to put out a good game considers aos' license valuable in the slightest
>>96235715Horse girl betting gacha but it's betting on snake girl gladiators
>>96235902>Popular doesnโt mean goodas far as GW is concerned, it means just that
they don't care if the game is actually unplayable trash once you get past the pretty presentation and rosy promises of the reaction streamers and cinematics, as long as aos as a setting gains positive notoriety online and gw gets its millions in royalties
>>96235860Sure whatever why the fuck not.
>>96235902I like TWW a lot tho
I wonder if khadrons have issues with dracothians trying to court their ships.
>>96235715An action hack and slash with diferent weapons would be great if you make it less "one button" and more "two button combo".
But I also lean towards RTS(not like Realms of ruin, more like DoW1 like
>>96235868 said, maybe even come up with unique units).
Also, The mininum of factions per Alliance could be 3 Imo.
>>96235715The best thing you could possibly do with aos to make people start appreciating it as a setting is actually show the fucking setting to people, because sure as hell people have either absolutely no idea of the cool shit it has or they have the wrong idea of what it's got because of online shitflinging
make an expansive rpg that focuses on the more unique and weird elements of aos
meaning 50% of the thing must be exposition about the basics of the world, perhaps instead of having the usual town as point of reference have a dawnbringers convoy moving across the lands and through realmgates, with metaliths, cogforts, scuttling gargolyans and allied kharadron ships
and the rest 50% of the thing must be flesh eater courts and nagash shenanigans because they're the fucking best
make gotrek the protagonist so you get a recognisable character that's going to pull in anyone and provides a grumbling adventurer that still doesn't know enough about the setting like the player and can realistically fight all sorts of things, including the biggest bossfights possible, and have all sorts of rotating companions to get or lose along the way, to get a breath of the various weirdnesses of the grand alliance order, but most importantly exposition and history lessons via banter and racism
>>96235890I'd be the sole Fyreslayer main.
How long until the Deepkin get an all-animal unit with a beastmaster support hero that buffs them?
>>96236088Sounds like a perfect underworlds type deal. How many do they have so far, 2 ?
>>96236088Your best hope is warcry and warcry is fucking dead
>>96236125Mosscairm however
>>96235447working on bossrok tower before i continue work on 40 ardboyz
>>96234073Fatcasts were such a shitshow, kek. I do think stormcast have redeemed themselves, but what a terrible choice for the poster boys of the setting.
Is this a good start for a Slaanesh army in this game
>>96236162its workable but get 1 painbringer first to see if you like painting them.
>>96236024Every time I see AoS lore being marketed itโs always strong black female stormcasts. Itโs no wonder itโs a failure, people never see the cool shit.
>>96236128If Mosscairn is real, it will be a fully self-contained model range, like Necromunda.
Which would be pretty sweet because that increases the odds they'd do Root Kings. They would be a perfect faction for a narrative skirmish game in Ghyran! GW, please listen to me!
>>96236179That's also the issue. Don't get me wrong, I'm not gonna bitch about race and gender, but it's clear it's done for pandering.
People won't give about AoS is all you do is "look, black female Stormcast! See, we are soo progressive!"
>>96236172I've got a full EC army ergo I already know I like painting painbringers
>>96236210>I'm not gonna bitch about race and genderDoubt.
>>96236235Don't worry, I will in his stead.
>>96236235I will. We need female Tzaangors.
>>96236210Yeah that's fair. I like AoS a lot but GW is terrible at marketing it.
Can I run a successful Maggotkin army with no deamons(dudes mounted on deamons are ok)?
>>96234109>Supposedly Age of Sigmar is slowly dying and losing support.
>>96236197Based root king enjoyers
>>96236255Yeah but make sure to get some board control in the form of flies or whatever if you're going full blightkings
>>96236260Don't reply to the obvious ragebait anon c'mon now
>>96236255worth noting that leakers have implied maggotkin are getting some kind of notable update this edition that will likely include pestigors
>>96236260I don't get the inimicality
the success of one of the two games leads to the success to the other because people get proxies, and the more one of them is successful, the more both are allowed to specialise into their respective peculiar elements instead of trying to fit each other's shoes
>>96236255im gonna be real its tough, not as tough as running mortal lists in tzeentch, but its doable. They really want you to run mixed demons here and there, whether thats a fuck ton of nurglings, or the mandatory rotigus.
Wont really matter in a casual game though.
>>96236296A shitposter just mindbroke some people here into thinking there was some kind of war going on between fanbases. Generally no one gives a shit.
>>96236162i would ditch 2 of the painbringer boxes for the spearhead. it would give you some more unit variety and model count, shouldnt be that much more expensive (80 quid for 2 painbringers vs 87 for the spearhead), gives you more unit roles with archers, cav and a wizard, and lets you play spearhead which in itself is a fun game mode.
so i would personally go with sigvald, 2x painbringers and a spearhead over sigvald and 4x painbringers.
>>96236235Anon, I know I am Latino and we got the "WhiteRaceSavior" allegations, but I ain't a crossburner. I don't even play League for starters.
>>96236253Exactly the biggest issue.
>biggest local online retailer still has this in stock
Wonder what it says about the popularity of the faction since the box is actually really good with a great selection of units. There's a few other battleforces left from that wave but they're obviously bad and undesirable.
I won't buy it either
>>96236311I already have the spearhead I just don't really wanna fuckin paint it right now
>>96236332Fusil-platoon is selling well, ironically enough.
>>96236332eh, i still found ironjawz and squigalanche battleforces floating around 6 months after their release sometimes. its not unusual to find one every now and then. this isnt 40k where scalpers are buying up deal boxes and parting them out.
>>96236332It's a battleforce that's 50% heroes, that's the issue. CoS is a horde army, so a box that gives you a bunch of troops would be useful, a box that gives you a legion of foot heroes, not so much.
>>96236332the savings on the christmas boxes were kinda dogshit. I think the only one that really sold even relatively well was the lion one for 40k. Even necrons had a hard time getting past shelves.
GW needs to realize that 33% discounts just are not attractive at all.
>>96236332GW scales up production every year my man, it only says that AoS consistently fails to meet their optimistic expectations but not the most pessimistic ones.
You can still find the Dark Oath army box. The StD battleforce was up for a whole year previously.
Anyone got a scan of the 4th ed Deepkin Battletome? Please and thank you.
Honestly I'll take a link to literally any 4th edition Battletome lol got none of 'em
>>96236386Yeah there were a lot of weird boxes last year, like that Tau box that was like 4 models.
Battleforces used to be kinda amazing, but at current prices a 33% discount on a probably terrible box isn't anything to get excited for unless it's exactly all of the models you were hoping for.
>>96236296There's an argument to be made that aos and tow are competing for players and therefore resources.
However, at least in my area there's fairly little competition. Most people that play tow aren't super interested in aos and vice versa. There's a couple people playing both, and I'm sure some people would start playing the other game if their preferred one stopped existing, but on the whole they're two different fanbases. Surprsingly not related to age demographics or anything, both systems have their zoomers and dads.
>>96236420Guess it's my bias since if I wanted to collect CoS it would be perfect for me. I actually have the army set as a dumb impulse purchase and besides that extra cav and marshal the battleforce would be a great addition with all new units and even then the Marshall has like 3 build options so it's fine.
Though I now see if someone already has the spearhead it quickly starts losing its appeal. People are also likely to have bought the command squad on its own as it seems like a safe purchase.
>>96235715Neave Blacktalon Hack and Slay like DMC. I'll also take Evil West but Callis and Toll.

>>96236502Exactly. It's a somewhat OK box if you don't own any CoS at all but if you've bought any of their other boxes or heroes the value goes down dramatically. It's also a box that no one would ever buy twice.
>>96235447I'm going to a ghost concert tonight, then finishing off Skragrot when I get home.
>>96235808Biggest problem with that is I feel like unless we mix some stuff up or just make units up no ones gonna be too terribly hyped for Fyreslayers with all of 2 named guys, or IDK with like 1 named guy.

>>96235715Vermintide, age of ligmar edition, or just do space marine but replace adeptus retardies with sigmarines
Casual here just trying to understand what this setting is.
What the hell is a 'Realm'? I am getting the sense from the limited info I've read, that it's basically a big disk, sort of, or maybe a planet?
But also, do people just live normal medieval/feudal lives there, farming and such, or do they get food to magically teleported in from Sigmar etc? Like how does it work, how high fantasy are we talking here? Do all the races/species just mix etc?

Does anyone have the links to the new episodes of Blacktalon?
>>96236598>IDK with like 1 named guyI know these are just examples, but IDK have literally 3 special characters just in their battletome
>Volturnos>Mathaela>LotannPlus you've got the UW band leaders, and the chick from Blacktalon, the BL novel guy, yadda yadda. A lot of TWW "Legendary Lords" are literal nobodies without actual models or rules in the TT, IDK is already well supplied with characters.
>>96236910NTA but that pdf came in handy since I have been out of touch with 4.0. Thanks.
>>96236875>>96236910Thank you both. So it's like a disk, within a sphere of space, on which there is a mega continent larger than Earth?
So are there Kindoms and Empires within each Realm? I'm assuming they just don't detail this well?
With Warhammer, I would see Nordland vs Stirland vs Ostermark, or the Greenskin clans different paint jobs and I get they had lands and cultures. AoS mostly seem to just have the same colour schemes and I get a sense of 'monoculture' for each faction. I'm not sure if thats by design or just a by-product of GW trying to sell whats popular etc.
I'm not sure if I'm just being autistic here, but the shorthand of using 'Not Germany'/Not France/Not China' helps to immdiately give me a sense of geography and normal day to day life.
>>96236848a realm is like a planet, but flat
they get food by farming it around their cities or importing it from other places that can produce a lot more of it
teleportation isn't that common, but there are a network of natural portals littering the geography so whatever place you're in ends up being connected both with the surrounding lands and the lands of the places the local portal(s) connect to
the gradient of high magic varies from place to place, most settled places are pretty normal with some weird fauna or flora, the most out there places are found in what are practically magical fallout zones where shit gets so weird you might as well be walking into the realm of chaos
the races interact, but they're still effectively separate peoples and cultures that happen to coexist in some places
>>96236966>. AoS mostly seem to just have the same colour schemes and I get a sense of 'monoculture' for each factionNo there's tons of color schemes and subcultures for every army, though GW took most of it out of their 4E tomes because they're retarded. If you look at any of the older battletomes they come loaded with subfactions and alternate color schemes.
>>96236966most realms are huge, with multiple continents, numerous and large enough that by rough estimates the realm we know the most is like 7 times larger than earth or something, but the vast majority of it is unexplored/unreachable/uninhabitable/irrelevant so the narrative ends up focusing on like 1/20th or 1/8th of each realm
most realms are so large you can find pockets of the various races in all of them, but some are very much hardwired into some factions: the realm of light is practically controlled by elves, the realm of death is where the forces of nagash are obviously dominant, the realm of beasts is greenskins central
most storylines and worldbuilding we have have focused on aqshy and ghyran
>>96236966>AoS mostly seem to just have the same colour schemes and I get a sense of 'monoculture' for each faction.Have you read or skimmed through any of the battletomes? There are factions with different color scheme in every army. And many of them have a certain point that they come from and that can be pointed on the map. Yet there are many vague or blank places so you can have your-guys.
>>96236966>>96236966>So it's like a disk, within a sphere of space, on which there is a mega continent larger than Earth?Yeah. Each realm has different shaped continents. So it's not a single mega-continent in each.
>So are there Kindoms and Empires within each Realm? I'm assuming they just don't detail this well?Yes. And every canon map we see is about 10-20% of the realm, leaving the rest of each to players and hobbyists to fill out for their own uses. Though, even then I feel the canon realm slices are still pretty poorly equipped to serve as a framework for your own writing. Hysh is a bit of an exception since GW has given us a map of the whole realm, but only the southeastern slice is canonically filled by GW(shown in
>>96237008) despite us having information about the other Paradises.
>AoS mostly seem to just have the same colour schemes and I get a sense of 'monoculture' for each faction. I'm not sure if thats by design or just a by-product of GW trying to sell whats popular etc. There's very different cultures among the factions but that requires performing the thing most reviled by fanbases. Actually reading the lore.
>I'm not sure if I'm just being autistic here, but the shorthand of using 'Not Germany'/Not France/Not China' helps to immdiately give me a sense of geography and normal day to day life.I get that. It's usually not too hard to apply the same to other settings. What I do for AoS is acknowledge that the canon slices we get are the parts of the realm that truly matter to the rest of the setting. Sort of like how certain planets/parts of the galaxy are truly relevant to 40k.

>>96237008This is very helpful, thank you.
>>96237015No, just what I've picked up online from GW's main promotional material. When I see 40k stuff, I feel like I see a huge variety of Guardsmen and Space Marines with wildly different looks.
Cities of Sigmar are your Guard equivilant but they all just look like generic late medieval European inspired dudes (not racially, just armor/weapon wise). It's just one of those things, 40k makes sense with one paragraph and a basic look at the promo material. AoS doesn't? But looking a bit deep now at the rulebook and with these images, it's fitting together a bit more. I don't think I've seen a setting like it before honestly, its just a new concept I guess?
>>96236956>Thanks.sure thing anon
>>96236966>on which there is a mega continent larger than Earth?Apparently they are very big; we kinda know how big they are (there is a map where a big map of the realm from the tome is shown as a relatively small part of the bigger map), but there are maps of usually one or several big continents from each realm, and each such map contains sometimes multiple cities/kingdoms and a large amount of other landmarks.
>>96235447No, I'm at the gym but will do some painting when I get home
>>96236925gimme a few hours until i am home from work. Ill drop ya the first half of the second season.
>>96235921This.
Would be easy to make, would have sex appeal, would be a good way to expand on one of the factions background
>>96236966don't mistake the extent of the model ranges for the extent of the setting
it's like believing chaos warriors back in fantasy are a monoculture instead of the clusterfuck of cults and subcults and tribes they actually have
aos even tried to have a whole game about different subcultures of chaos that aren't just the 4 main gods
the cities of order are just as varied, but of course the model range is going to be limited, like the imperial guard releases in 40k are 90% cadians
>>96236953I thought that too but I always figured these guys were lower end tier. I suppose not every lord in total war is some end tier super boss too so honestly not a bad point.
>>96236774Yeah doing it as a thought experiment really changes your perspective. Like for KO just arkanauts and Thunderers would be like at least 10 units in TW. Plus most armies have unique spell lores (multiple even) prayer lores, etc. If anything the real challenge is trying to find a way to squeeze in the million billion random foot heroes most AoS armies have. For Fyreslayers, making some of them into small units actually makes a lot of sense.
TLDR it's way less of a problem than you would think once you understand how much CA bloats everything deliberately.
>>96236966Their are kingdoms and empires, but their borders aren't well defined. Take Glymmsforge for example. On its face it and the territory around it are under the control of the Ossiarchs. However the city itself has a realmgate to Azyr, so functionally besieging it is impossible. Each side has their own battles to fight so war flares up and cools down as happens. What you end up with is a state of quasi-war, neither the Ossiarchs nor Sigmarites wanna go ham attacking eachother.
Additionally each army has multiple colour schemes. Usually this boils down to "faction, but X", however this has quite a few exceptions. The difference between Fyreslayer holds is more based on cultural/bloodline rifts, whereas Nighthaunt go by choice of torment/material.
>>96237083That makes sense, plus GW has given CA free reign in the past to just make shit up so I reckon we'll have room for whatever. I would enjoy an AoS total war if not just to hear and see and feel the fluff.
Vermintide really helped me get a good feeling for Fantasy back in the day (previously I was a broke kid so I had old books and heroquest as my general point of entry) I would love something like that for AoS
>>96237043>I don't think I've seen a setting like it before honestly, its just a new concept I guess?Multiple realms connected through portals and whatnot is not a new concept. Think of Magic: The Gathering or Planescape.
>>96237043GW has not invested the same level of stuff into AoS they did with 40k or fantasy. I imagine mostly because both of those had decades of material and stuff to work with, AoS just turned 10 and GW has mostly kept it insular and not bridged out as hard with it.
>>96237083i wonder which AoS army would be the most bloated by CA. Kharadons is already good start, but Total Warhammer made the chaos army book in to 6 different races with 20ish factions. It would be hard to top something like that.
>>96237043No it's normal anon, fantasy and 40k are pretty simple to understand from just a quick look (fantasy earth vs sci fi solar system) while aos is a bit more out there with its world. You're not the first to ask this question and you won't be the last. Imo it's best compared to norse mythology, with their different worlds (midgard, asgard, vanaheim,...) connected through the world-tree. Although I guess the simplest comparison is just a solar system with 8 flat planets.
Regarding CoS, fluffwise there's a lot of variation between armies, but the model range just represent one basic standard (even in-universe it's a whole thing that this standard approach doesn't work nearly as well as it does in others). Picrel shows the (simplified) heraldry and colours for the main cities.
>>96237086Yeah, I'm getting the sense the lore is there then, it's just buried a bit. I think the basic concept is unique and I don't think the same resources are there online like with Fantasy/40k to outline that stuff.
>>96237112I think the difference is that MtG has 200+ cards to show a plane's inhabitants, its lands and its culture and day to day life, as well as the battles. AoS from the casual view point just feels like BIG GOLDEN BOYS TELEPORTING TO HELL AND SMASHING DEMONS 'ND SHIT. FUCK YEAH, BLOOD AND THUNDER'. I don't really have a visual element to tell me *what* they are fighting for?
But with 40k/Fantasy, that gap is filled by other media and history (ie. Space Empire I get, and Fantasy has a earth like outline + fantasy elements added, I get it right away)
I'm looking for the 2nd edition PDFs of The Hedonists of Slaanesh. Does anyone happen to have them? I understand that there are two books, right?
>>96237146It's always problem with having poster boys. They're focused in most of the lore, most of the art and most of the models are painted in their color scheme.
>>96237146>AoS from the casual view point just feels like BIG GOLDEN BOYS TELEPORTING TO HELL AND SMASHING DEMONS 'ND SHIT. FUCK YEAH, BLOOD AND THUNDER'It's not like there aren't streaks of that, but I find it has a campy charm when big dudes in blocky armor show up and bonk evil on the head with giant mallets.

>>96237211>>96237188The He-man comparison is pefect, I got the exact same feeling when I watched that, everything outside of our main man fighting people just feels like very fuzzy/vague background that no one really can or wants to define at all.
This amazing magic/tech exists but most people are just dirt farmers who we don't really see 98% of the time.
Someone mentioned Norse myth before, and that helps a lot in terms in mindset to take, that helps me make this all click a bit. I just normally like the detail in my world building, give me the autistic detail about where these people shit and what they're eating and working on etc.
Its more of a lesser pathfinder or discoworld really
>>9623723610 steelhelms for 80pts is 20pts more than 10 stabbas, it's the same cost as 10 Hobgrots
>>96237240>I just normally like the detail in my world building, give me the autistic detail about where these people shit and what they're eating and working on etc.Age of Sigmar as a wargame doesn't really focus on that much. Stuff like that is covered to some extent in novels and RPG books. I mean, look at that
>https://ageofsigmar.lexicanum.com/wiki/Cuisine_of_the_Mortal_Realms
>>96237283ok so? you don't run hobgrots either.
>>96237309uh...yeah, you do?
>>96237240I think pseudo-mythological is the best lens to view aos through. Yknow that "golden age back in the day" when odin and athena and whatever meddled in the affair of mortals, that sirta feel. I know gw peddled it as a replacement for fantasy but that's just not what it is, and if you look at it from that pov you're setting yourself up for dissapointment eventually. It's just a fundamentally different *type* of world/setting.
Back to the norse comparison, I think there's actually a fair bit to it. Besides the mortal realms = yggdrasil and the nine worlds, there's also the figure of sigmar going from a hammer-wielding, hotheaded god of war (thor), to a more wise, royal, patriarchal figure (odin). He's even got a spear now! Then there's him collecting great dying warriors (stormcast/einherjar) for a final confrontation against the forces of evil.
I imagine the high fantasy of age of sigmar to be quite similar to the mythological magitech of the god of war franchise, if you've ever played it. Picrel.
>>96237327how do you know so much about how many hobgrots im running...... only I know that information....
>>96237296Yeah most people who say thereโs no details like that just havenโt bothered to engage with the setting at all, you donโt get any of that stuff in a 40k codex or an arcane journal/WHF battletome either, a lot of people just have a passive knowledge base theyโve consumed second hand about 40k/WHF and assume their lack of one for aos means it doesnโt have anything to know.
I mean, look at the cities of sigmar page on the lexicanum, that shit is huge

>>96237539lol. lmao. Anything decent attributed to fantasy was absorbed by osmosis to 40k.
>>96237539then why it died? and i don't mean the kind of "death" fags here use, i mean completely killed and replaced by gw.
>>96237550The fantasy setting was good, the plastic dudes game was not. At least in the sense that getting into it meant a massive painting hurdle just to get started.
Little to no new blood meant the game was doomed sales-wise, especially when even back then there were a lot of grogs that would stick to their 15 year old infantry models and not buy much. At least now as a specialist game it might be more free from sales targets at can just stick to its dedicated audience without management breathing down its neck.
>>96237550>then why it died?long story short: shitty armybuilding rules and meta, bad bundle boxes, and the company as a whole was gasping for air.

>>96237550Most of fantasy auideience were hypercompetetive grogs, who didnt buy new things.
It might seem weird now, but stuff like demigryphs or luminark of hysh were recieved very badly when they first came out.
So gw was in a place where, making new things doesnt pay out, and remaking old things doesnt work because everyone already got 200 goblins they wanted and dont need anything new
>>96233983 (OP)Super lame artillery piece, looks like a cooler eagle bolt thrower but does fuck all, needs an archer unit near it to make it slightly better and has a 1/game ability that MIGHT help. Also the worst point per dollar unit in the entire army
speaking of teclis, why the hell is he accompanied by a sphinx? Did he get bored of human women and get a new gf?
>>96237774That's a very common pose, the two aren't similar at all beyond being both elf wizard special characters.
And eldrad is older than teclis as a miniature.
>>96237806It's a whole thing to do with spiritual enlightenment and harmonizing with the realm. Don't worry about it.
>>96237806Would you not hang out with a sphinx if you could?
If you think about it, letting Tzeentch corrupt you is the most based and just thing you can do in the Mortal Realms.
>>96237806its the spirit of the moon of hysh, and taught teclis how to commune with the elemental spirits of the land, which he then taught to his people and is the reason why they have the elemental temples
so its kind of like a divine mentor spirit elemental
>>96233983 (OP)Fatcasts are much better then the nucasts.
I will always prefer a "fatter" model over a "slender" one, see 40k IG update.
Their weapons have much more interesting designs, their helmets dont look bald, and dont get me started on probably the ugliest shields possible that GW gave new Liberators and the spear guys.
And they have a bunch of cool pereferal shit like the hammer cloack on the old celestant prime.
Fatcasts looked like toy soldiers, some people dont like that, obviously, Newcasts look like nothing, a group of cad assets.
Only good Nucast models are annihilators and dragon riders
>>96237867>Only good Nucast models are annihilators I would shit on your opinion like an indian coming across a undesecrated sidewalk, but I really do wish annihilators had some kind of ornamentation such as pelts or what not. Of all the models that needed covering up, it was them.
>>96237806when he left his second creations to go get some groceries they microdosed on magical methamphetamine until their petty slights grew out of proportions and they launched magical nukes at each other, making their civilisation collapse, demons flood the realms, and scarring the landscape almost irreversibly.
when teclis got back and saw the absolute clusterfuck they caused he decided they needed to reinvent themselves and get into some zen bullshit to calm themselves, and went to plead to the moon for help, the spirit of the moon is a sphinx, and by convincing her he got the various other furry spirits of the lands of hysh to teach kung fu to the elves, despite the elves destroying said lands.
some of the ways to teach kung fu involve drowning the elves or throwing rocks at them until they die or give up, but lets be honest, the elves deserve it.
