I don't necessarily dislike Wyll
He's a relatively generic "good" character who the MC can manipulate into submission, every game needs one of those. He's the Valerie of BG3 in my eyes, overall noble and well-intentioned but clearly fucked up plenty of times along the way and thus needs someone to "reaffirm his nobleness".
Compared to most of the other characters, who directly tangle with Gods and much higher powers, he's pleasantly basic
