It's mostly just the season and the fact that every inch possible is being farmed
the picture I posted isn't really fair either since it's winter and that whole area was flooded and then turned into a giant construction camp with thousands of workers so it's kinda obvious it would be barren.
this video gives a better impression of the country I think, though I have seen it even greener when the fields are fully grown.
