I love that they're not """cooler"" replacements that end up overshadowing the MC as the likes of Vegeta and Shadow end up being (or viceversa when Goku/Sonic end up cleaning their messes and showing them up), they're completely different characters doing their own thing and growing in their own way, and they don't substract from the rest of the cast, just add up to the already rich cast of characters. The way GB handled its recurring cast and super strong/rival type characters was just perfect, and I'd even argue one and done characters like Ted/Cherish or that stubborn piece of shit Rodeux end up feeling like they have their own life and goals and struggles going on, despite being in the same competition. A+ use of cast, except for the final villain, very rare for shonen.
