I have seen a theory basically going over why papyrus literally does not exist in deltarune and only came into existence once sans left for undertale, considering sans bleeds and papyrus doesn't aswell as papyrus having not much of a memory of anything before undertale or the sun.

My personal theory is something that came to mind when I was watching that "how to kill a time traveler video" in which sans and papyrus basically dre straws to decide who plays observer and who plays bait for determining your intentions and papyrus drew bait in undertale
