Let me give some examples of the kind of things I've found.
A world where the surface is uninhabitable due to firestorms, but a complex ecosystem exists just below the surface in a system of tunnels that spans the entire planet.
A dead world with craters so deep that they can't be climbed even with the jetpack, monoliths stand on plateau's in the middle of the craters.
A world that is entirely ocean except for a few scattered micro-islands, with sunken ruins so deep I couldn't swim all the way down to them with the oxygen I had.
A lush gaia world with breathable air, densely strewn with tiny little paths cutting through the valleys, where you can walk for hours.
A world with lakes and plains dotted with tall inverted cone mountains. Many of the lakes are connect by underwater caves where alien squids live.
I once got lost because I couldn't reach back up to my ship and I had to wander aimlessly across the desert, following the spaceship traffic in the sky to get to an outpost where I could finally recall my ship.
I feel like the randomly generation really does make unique stuff, at least the old version, it isn't just differently coloured plains.
