This has literally always been known, anyone who actually believes the higher up the corporate ladder you are the more work you do is retarded as in actually mentally deficient
a few years ago I was working a tech helpdesk, it was a literal hell on earth, not single second between calls, constantly being berated by people over trivial non issues because they had nothing better to do, got tired of it and straight up lied on my resume to get a management position and I now do nothing 99% of the time, I have a once a week staff meeting that I delegate to a team lead to do most of the talking, I do monthly 1 on 1s with the 20 or so guys on my team and 99% of the time those are just "your numbers are good keep it up champ" or "your numbers are lower than last month try to have them up by the next time we talk okay :)" and then I go back to doing nothing, I'm literally "working" right now posting this, I'll have tomorrow off, I'll wake up late on Monday and no one will notice
it's actually unbelievable how little you can get away with the higher you climb I haven't even talked to my own manager in months outside of our monthly managers meeting where he does the same shit he delegates everything and occasionally adds a grunt for yes or no, if its right before a holiday he doesn't even try to hide he does nothing and just talks about going to his lake house with his family, world is a fuck, work is a scam
