Why is food, and the appreciation of it so prominent in manga/anime? A lot of times it's just...there, meticulously detailed, spanning the whole page, and doesn't advance the plot or serve any particular narrative purpose besides perhaps giving a moment of respite in a story beat. I'm not complaining, its fun to look at food, but wonder where this cultural nuance comes from.
