in the US most autoparts stores are where i've seen it, its like $10 a gallon and you can reuse it multiple times even if it looks dirty, it doesnt affect the strip. its about as mild as like a strong dish detergent or mild bathroom cleaner. i would recommend gloves but you dont need a mask or anything and its not gonna burn you if it gets on your skin or anything like that, though it will sting if it gets in a cut.
occasionally it will leave a white residue on the model, if it does just get a dry toothbrush or paint brush and dust it off. water will make the pwder adhere again and it wont come off, but a dry dusting will get it off the model, it doesnt effect the model itself, just some kind of powder residue.
