It's literally the exact same gameplay from P3F but with direct commands built in instead of having to use mods or PCSX2 cheats to enable them.
And with Theurgies. ATLUS did a poor job at balancing those, but that hardly makes the gameplay (which is, again, P3/P4's for the most part) dogshit.

Reload is better. Not flawless, but overall better.
I recommend FES for a first playthrough to see what the real deal is like, but for seconds and beyond Reload all the way.
