Well first, you seem relatively intelligent to understand your own situation. I would recommend reading up J.D Unwin's Sex and Culture, it may help to understand things from a societal perspective. The idea that sexual-restraint is what leads to cultural flourishing. That is to say, to fundamentally restrain your own desires and needs for the betterment of yourself and humanity. The tragedy of course is that very few cultures thoughout human history have ever succeeded in subliming their desires, but the ones that did were the ones that moved humanity forward, such as the Romans. It's arguably incredibly tough to go against your desires hence why few cultures throughout history are often talked about.
