In this current climate, boys and teenagers need a more masculine Pertwee-like Doctor Who. It's why Eccleston resonated back in the day (Tennant caught on because of the rise of "geek chic"). Making the Doctor a woman or bender clearly doesn't work (and hopefully a new production partner tells the BBC this outright)
