Funny how he himself let go of Susan and Sarah, but everyone else leaves. Shit probably hurts.
Can we recreate the original plan for RTD2? Seems clear the OG plot was fucked even morese by development/cast issues, but heres my theory;
RTD had a three season arc planned; the first two seasons focussing on Ruby. In season 2, we find out that Ruby is the Wish Baby, and is a member of the pantheon. Poppy being introduced in SB sets up the payoff in Wish World where the Dr and Ruby bring her into existence. In In season 3, the arc would follow 15 and Ruby trying to recover Poppy, ending with the reveal of Poppy being Susans mother, and 15 taking a young Susan to Gallifrey to be with the 1st Doctor.

Listened to Masters of War the other day. Why the fuck is the Doctor getting so pissy over the Daleks and Thals torturing one of the bad guys? These assholes wanna kill everyone on Skaro and was behind the fall of the Thal Empire, the war and the very reason why the Kaleds were turned into Daleks. Why so protective over the genocidal maniacs? The peopel who write this shit liek to do the same for criminals and terrorists, caring about being humane for those who will never give them the same respect. Then another character says "oh no" just to back up the Doctor when it's a Thal whose life was ruined before she was born because of the bad guys. NuWho is for women, trannies and homos.
time to reverse the polarity of this thread away from the religious chat
/who/ thoughts on a soft/hard reset? as i get older i respect more and more how the NuWho reset was done- kept the lore mostly intact, added the Time War but dripped it in slowly through the first 2/3 seasons. With the show lumbering under so much canonical deadweight (looking at you timeless child) could a reset be done, and how would you do it? Ncuti was meant to be that but they royally fucked that
>>211360764Restart from Capaldi.
Or just end it. The Doctor Falls should've been the ending, and Capaldi should've been the last incarnation.
>>211360764Everything after 2017 needs to be explicitly retconned
No ifs
No buts
>>211360764continue with implied but not explicit continuity, and flat ignore everything from after capaldi (because the audience did, and it's a mess).
New Doctor who just shows up. Missing memories is an idea.
>>211360816>Capaldi should've been the last incarnation. It's always felt like Americans that jumped on at Smith are the people who believe this.
>>211360684based and correct
>>211360764basically imitate what they did in 2005 which did a good job drip feeding information about the Doctor and his past enemies. there can be season long storylines that culminate in a big finale but they're developed in the background, the focus is on having solid standalone stories.
also would probably do like the Third Doctor's stories and focus them on earth to begin with. a couple of contemporary stories dealing with sci-fi stuff to introduce concepts, then a few time travel ones before we leave earth for alien worlds, probably leading into the first season's big story. i would also probably have a companion that isn't from the modern era, maybe the 90s or something.
also would imply that the chibs/rtd2 era are basically like another time war level event that caused similar damage to "the web of time" or whatever and the Doctor has been trying to ratchet down getting involved in universal affairs because his own timeline was getting complicated. basically a soft retcon of the era that acknowledges the damage it caused which leads to the Doctor having a change in personality again. going from the bleeding heart who wants to save the universe and never uses a gun etc. back to something a bit more like his classic portrayals as a mischievous, intrepid wanderer who has a knack for getting himself involved in these sorts of plots but doesn't go out seeking them with some kind of savior complex.
>>211360893Why? It has a lot more to do with them no longer writing the Doctor as the Doctor after 2017. Jodie Whitaker is not the Doctor. Ncuti Gatwa is not the Doctor. Tennant is, but a parody version of his former self.
>>211360764Soft reboot initially, don't acknowledge anything before but keep viewers guessing
Don't say what number the new incarnation is
Then in the second series drop it
Have one of those incarnation montages that stops at Capaldi then goes to the new one
>>211360980>there can be season long storylines that culminate in a big finale but they're developed in the backgroundno there cannot. Doctor Who should be an anthology series. anything else will inevitably lead into more stakes race and viewer fatigue.
>>211361019i'm less interested UNIVERSE ENDING MYSTERY BOXES or THE COMPANION IS THE MOST IMPORTANT EVER and more establishing a back and forth with an important villain. ideally the finale would merely provide context for mysteries in the previous episodes and set up a conflict for the next, rather than how RTD does it where every episode is just progression for the mystery box of which classic era villain gets turned into a CGI cartoon and blown up in 5 minutes. like having the reveal that the Master has been engineering all the messes the Doctor has run into over the course of season 1, which sets up a next season where you have a more longform back and forth between them. think the season of Pertwee where every story was a Master story - not that he'd show up every story, but there's a kind of chase involved, there's a goal in sight alongside these standalone episodes that have little bits and bobs that progress the larger story.
just because RTD has totally shit the bed with this stuff doesn't mean it's inherently bad, you just have to do it correctly.
>>211360982Because it displays a lack of understanding about the show, it's not really suitable for the Doctor to die an action hero's death. Especially in this case since the show would end with the Doctor dying to temporarily delay the Cybermen from killing Nardole and the people on the ship. Not even saving them, just delaying the inevitable, it's too grim. If there was a time for the show to end with Capaldi it'd be after he gave his regeneration speech in Twice Upon a Time with a cut to black before we see who's next.
>>211360764at this point an actual, on-screen reset or even lines of dialogue about it feel tedious. same shit as multiverses, or resurrections, or clones.
just don't acknowledge it. what
>>211360992 said, but keep the viewers guessing FOREVER.
>>211360887missing memories feels like the best way to at least start things. assuming nobody has a solid plan on how to plot the reset in canon it might give the show a few seasons before the continuity has to be addressed
>>211360980iโd be down with this. perhaps most of 1st season tardis is damaged and can only travel in time but not space etc. gives time for the companions+families to breathe which i miss from the tylers/jonesโ/nobles etc compared to now
>>211361165it fits with the way the Time War reshaped his character and how it feels to look back on that era of the show now that we're in this neverending nightmare of shit
>>211361132I'd be down more for the idea of each series having a theme. One series is localised to earth (maybe somewhere like prohibition era America), with the Doctor playing a detective. The next series is a grand space opera involving timelord lore. The next is a battle through time against the Master. so on and so forth.
alternative to the reset- Billie Piper gets a special that leaves with an open-ended regeneration and then
we fuck it off and start with a full on run of shows starring 8 going through the Time War, Clone Wars style.
also just a prediction but iโll bet ten pound stirling the billie piper thing actually just ends up getting resolved during fucking children in need

>>211361165>Especially in this case since the show would end with the Doctor dying to temporarily delay the Cybermen from killing Nardole and the people on the ship. Not even saving them, just delaying the inevitable, it's too grim. But that's the whole point. It's a reversal of the space Jesus meme RTD turned him into. The Doctor has never been this big super hero type. He's just a wanderer who has a good heart and tries to do the right thing. The Doctor Falls is the perfect ending because by this point it's the conclusion of his character arc and he decides to just do one last act of kindness even at the cost of his own life. It's not a big battle, it's not the fate of the entire universe, it's just doing his best to buy time for defenseless children. It's basically the core ethos of the show.
Twice Upon A Time drags out the regeneration too much. It's very obvious it was tacked on at the end after Chibnall decided he didn't want to do the Christmas episode.
>>211361205All of the other Doctors weren't really like that in how they went. Sure the Doctor became more actiony in the revival, but at the end of the day his regenerations were more personal. 9 and 10 sacrificed their own life to save one person (15 is the same actually, RTD must really like this as a reason for regenerating), and while 11 had an explosive regeneration he died of old age as a mad old inventor protecting a town from the monsters and aliens attacking them.
>>211361132>mysterieshere you go again. we need none of that shit. it will make your series last 7 or 8 seasons before the audience get tired of it, never 25 years.

>>211361614>NOOOOO YOU CAN'T HAVE A STORYLINE LAST LONGER THAN A SINGLE EPISODE BECAUSE.... BECAUSE YOU CAN'T, OKAY?!
>>211361614agree. classic who stories had arcs. difference was that they were contained within the serial and mostly didnt fundamentally change the lore. issue with RTD is raising the stakes leads to making mad stupid choices for shock value.
i could see several post reset seasons being mostly bottle episodes, structures like;
S1 - Dr trapped on earth trying to find tardis w unit and solving โmonster of the weekโ style problems
S2 - Dr is trying to fix tardis, still on earth but w gradual levelups
S3 - tardis is fixed but jumpy, unpredictable, back to landing in random places for self contained quests etc
S4 - โฆ fuck knows. i think its a crying shame they nuked gallifrey again, the whole โlast of the time lordsโ schtick was getting old and i looked forward to some DW/TL fun, getting sent on missions etc like 3+4 did. but now heโs so OP that dynamic is FUBAR
>>211361675two-parters are fine too.
>>211361490A story arc doesn't have to be an insufferable mystery box.
You can literally just do something like the Doctor is stuck on Earth for a while, and has a series of adventures as a detective, with there being like an evil industrialist who forms the main villain of the series. Maybe Rutans are involved, idk.
I want a episode where nothing bad happens and its just the doctor mulling about.
>>211361421>The Doctor Falls is the perfect ending because by this point it's the conclusion of his character arc and he decides to just do one last act of kindness even at the cost of his own lifeThat works as a very good ending to 12, but not as an ending for the show itself. Like you said, the Doctor is just a wanderer that pops in and tries to set things right. I don't think the show itself ending with him sacrificing his life and putting an end to what's essentially a symbol of hope without it really living on in some form is a good idea. I think an ending for the show should always be on a positive note, that the Doctor's adventures will always continue even if we don't see them.
As for Twice Upon a Time, I agree that it's dragged out, but I think the regeneration scene is a good note to end on. The Doctor imparting his wisdom on the next Doctor and by extension the next generation that would bring the show back.
>>211361859Watch Edge of Destruction.
>>211361897I did and it was great, but something bad still happens in it.
>>211361859A comedic episode where the Doctor keeps waiting for the plot to happen, and it never does.
>>211361791you perfectly know it won't stop to this.
Doctor Who should literally be Vera or Poirot in space. story arcs are needed only if you aren't talented enough to make individual stories captivating on their own.
>>211361509I agree it's as selfless as the rest if not more (aside from 11 maybe), but it just doesn't sit right with me.
>>211361583It's not really an issue of characterisation. Every revival Doctor would be chomping at the bit to save the day instead of running away. It's just that while the Doctor plays the action hero sometimes, there's usually a greater satisfaction to when it's time to go, and that's not just to save the day. The Doctor does what he can, but it doesn't fit the show for him to only delay the inevitable at best before dying forever.
>>211362050I've said before that Vera is a good model for a potential female Doctor. Shame that the actress is way too old for it.
>That genetic explosion. It didn't kill us, but it roasted us and sterilised us.
so The Master's doomsday weapon meant Time Lords were firing blanks, then he just...waited? wat.
>>211362050Fear of story arcs is just kind of dumb, and shows a lack of imagination.
I'm not even saying they have to do story arcs. Just that they could, and it would serve to break up routine and get people interested every now and again.
Look how everyone got really into the Avengers, when they did that several part thing with Thanos, or how some people really like the Dominion War era of DS9.
I'm pretty much done with casual DW watching, as is, but if the word got out they were doing a whole season that was in a particular setting, like the early 20th century, for example, or a season where every episode shares a singular villain, I would at least show up to see what that was about.
>>211361981or an episode from the POV of the companions best mate. first 5 minutes are them in the initial encounter w the doctor, and the rest of it shows what its like staying behind - explaining to people, paying bills, a subplot about getting the companion to pay their rent from the future, a couple of reunions while comp comes back to visit and grab clothes etc - would be interesting to see someone age their whole life in an episode as their friend bounces around time and space, leaves when theyre both 20s, companion is still young but you see them drop in until the friend is old as fuck etc
So does it seem like Billie Pipper being brought back in the main show, is to try and take away from the Ninth doctor and Rose reunion in the audio? I dunno just seems like Russell is being petty to Eccleston again. I think if they get the show on the air again, theyโll have Billie not be Rose but the orgin of the moment.
>>211362340there's no point theorising about what it character she's playing. S1/S2 has made it abundantly clear that RTD is just making things up as he goes along, don't waste effort thinking about what it means when the writer himself doesn't know. the choice to cast Billie was a death rattle, nothing more than a last ditch attempt to garner interest
I fleeeeww into the willlld and firrrrre, I danced and died a thousand tiiiiimes
>seasonal arcs
Fuck off with that gay shit. Unless it's something based and ridiculous like Trial of a Time Lord, I don't want to fucking know.
>>211360764I've been thinking about this, its a fun thought experiment to try to fix Doctor Who.
I would start with a series of specials staring different doctors to address the problems with the current show. David Bradley as the first doctor in a Heaven Sent style solo adventure where he is lost in a labyrinth of victorian era cobblestone alleyways in an effort to reach a distress call. The next would be a third doctor adventure staring Sean Pertwee in a 1970's psychadelica monster plot where hippies smoke psychoactive drugs to see self replicating machine elves, but those elves are real and start killing people. The third would be an eighth doctor horror adventure where he investigates an old haunted house that witnesses claim is...bigger on the inside.
All three stories are episodic and require no current knowledge of modern doctor who, Until...
Instead of a next week teaser at the end, we begin to reveal that Billie Piper is indeed Bad Wolf and that the Doctor "broke" his own timeline making the supernatural real at the end of the universe. So those 6 beams of regeneration energy shooting from the Doctor's regeneration creates more of a "crack in the windowframe of time" causing time to stop. The tardis freaks out, using all of its emergency safeguards to try to work out the time anomaly, it over corrects and this is what brings forth Bad Wolf.
Observing the frozen regeneration, she works out that the only way this is possible is that when the Doctor made the supernatural real, it made him a God without him realizing, because only Gods can do that. He accidentally becomes the God of time, breaking his own timeline so hints of this, like Bad Wolf, were scattered throughout time. So even though he is "The Other" it's because he fucked up everything and not because he's truly a God.
So time is frozen because the God of Time died, but because he's a Timelord he can regenerate, so there's still a chance to fix this.

This would be the last special in the series of specials before the next series, but builds on the Bad Wolf stuff.
Bad Wolf sends a distress call to the previous incarnations of the Doctor. They use the Moment to create fissures in time to allow the previous Doctors and their tardises to fly in and pull the frozen tardis backwards through time. It's still not enough, so Bad Wolf has to sacrifice herself to giving every last bit of her energy in order to get it to succeed. It works, but it works too well, flinging all the previous incarnations back to their timelines and reverting Ncuti's regeneration. Him and his tardis get rocketed backwards through time, approaching the Big Bang but the tardis can't handle the pressure of the entire universe shrinking to the size of an atom. Before the Doctor gets crushed by the literal weight of the Universe, the Cloyster bell rings and the Doctor dematerializes off the Tardis.
Bright lights blind the Doctor, confused he demands to know what's going on.
We reveal a Gallifreyan courtroom. The Doctor is to be on trial for his vandalism of time and space, mainly his forgery of "The Other" that effected Gallifrey history and nearly destroyed all of time and space.
The Doctor demands to see the prosecution and to get this charade on with.
They announce the Valeyard and we reveal it's David Tennant.
The entire next series is another Trial of a Timelord but it ends with the Doctor being sentenced to losing a regeneration and his tardis. The Valeyard dies having fulfilled his duty. Ncuti regenerates and then we get another golden Jon Pertwee era 2.0 filled with secret agents, gadgets and betsy. honk honk.

>>211364107TNG, DS9 and VOY all connect to each other but it's not really one big overlapping story. They do lead into each other though. TNG lays the groundwork for DS9 and DS9's first episode and main cast has some of the TNG cast. DS9 lays some of the groundwork for Voyager and connects a little back into TNG. Similarly to DS9, the first episode of Voyager has some of the DS9 cast. Though Voyager's premise is that they're flung into another quadrant of the Galaxy so after that there's some overlap in things, but they're not too connected.
Then there's the TNG movies which kind of ignore DS9 and VOY a little.

I think it's quite telling that in every multi-Doctor episode, the Doctors always bicker and disapprove of each other. But this didn't happen with Jodie and Ncuti, because they can't have anyone be critical of either incarnation
Peter Davison played the Doctor's son in an audio btw. If we're considering the Morbius Doctors and that 4 was the 13th Doctor, then that'd make 5 the start of a new cycle which he acquired through means of The Watcher. And in that cycle, he interestingly uses his son's face. McCoy also showed up as a pre-Hartnell Doctor, making 7 a repeat.

So the Doctor originates from those times and has a twin sister.

Anyone else entered the big finish competition?
The conditions were that you submit a synopsis and excerpt no more than 500 words, for a story featuring the 13th Doctor and her companions. You were not allowed to use an existing baddy, or historical figures.
Here is my synopsis:
>Yaz the Spaz
The Tardis materializes in the bedroom of Laurence Farage in 2022. It is 5 minutes to midnight on the eve of Laurence's 35 birthday. He is a virgin and has never touched a girl let alone kissed one. His room is strewn with used tissues and his walls papered with popular misogionists off the internet... Laurence is an... INCEL!
Unaware of the danger she is in Yaz leaves the Tardis first, where she is pounced upon by Laurence. As a woman, in his room she must be up for it and he makes a hamfisted pass at her. Seeing the misogynist posters on the walls, Laurence's greasy balding hair and wheesing morbidly obese body looming over her, she says no. Laurence flys into a fit of rage and the Doctor enters from the tardis followed by Graham and the boy whose name nobody can remember.
As the clock strikes midnight a change happens in Laurence and there is lightning and cool shit. The Doctor explains that when an Incel hits 35, if they have never even kiseed a girl they become a powerful wizard.
With his newfound Wizard powers Laurence gets his revenge on Yaz and casts a spell to turn her into a dribbling retard that has to be wheeled around in a chair. There is only one way to reverse it, the Doctor says, but it is too horrible to consider so the F@m retreat back into the tardis.
For the next 20 years the Doctor looks after Yaz, who is incapable of talking and just communicates in grunts, wipes up her pooy bum and drool from her mouth and feeds her babyfood.
Graham manages it for a few months, but leaves because he is board. The boy whose name nobody remembers is still there but nobody ever notices him as he stands there doing nothing, as usual.

>Poppy is a black as coal niglet
>Poppy is human
>Poppy cannot fucking time travel
>Somehow she was going to be the mother of a white time lady
Davros was right, this universe needs a reality bomb to the testicles
>>211373377>Continued.Eventually the Doctor decides to do the unthinkable and returns to Laurence the incel wizard. Laurence gives a "we are not so different, you and I" speach before the doctor resolves to do the unthinkable to get Laurence to reverse his spell on Yaz and turn her back to normal.
The doctor must give the incel wizard a blowjob!
The incel wizard's penis tastes horrid and cheesy to the Doctor from all the smegma, and she vomits on him. Luckily Laurence loves Roman Shower porn so this makes him cum quickly. He spaffs right into that ridge in the middle of the 13th Doctor's brow that if you hadn't noticed it before you eyes will be drawn to now.
Upon cumming with a lady the incel wizard powers abandon Laurence and Yaz, turns back to normal after 20 years of being a retard spaz. Naturally she is desperate for the sex and even lowers her standards to having sex with Laurence. She doesn't have sex with the boy whose name nobody can remember because literally nobody knows he is even there he fades into the background so much and does nothing. But while watching the Doctor care for Yaz for 20 years, he became an incel wizard himself. What will he do with this power? Will he try to take over the world? No, he'll just do nothing like always.

The full regeneration sequence would have him quote Oppenheimer's "we knew the world would not be the same" speech, when his new face appears, both him and the Doctor simultaneously say "now I am become death, destroyer of worlds"

They were setting him up to be the Valeyard when he entered the Doctor's timeline as the Great Intelligence. Bet they retcon the Shalka Doctor to be the Valeyard/Simon in the future, screencap this.
