>Heinrich Ignaz Franz von Biber died in a freak accident while testing a new invention of his own design. An avid equestrian, Franz von Biber designed and constructed a horse saddle with large springs attached to the underside, by pulling a rope, the saddle mechanism would release and extend the saddle higher into the air giving the rider a better view. Franz von Biber miscalculated the spring rate in the first model, and when he sat atop the contraption and tested it, it sent him flying into the ceiling of the stable which broke his neck. [9]
