People like him because he feels genuine and human. The game takes quite a bit of time to flesh him out in a wider context, you're shown his family, his little hick town's culture, what he likes outside of being a Trainer, and this makes him stand out a lot compared to the average, one-dimensional Pokémon character. People don't want to "cuck" him or make him accept his place on the totem pole; they feel guilty over the game's narrative forcing them to lie to him, they want to help him get what he wants, they want to prop him up and be happy. Maybe they see themselves in him, maybe not.
A lot of us want to fuck him, but that's just one piece of the puzzle. If Anons from here only wanted to talk about wanting to fuck him exclusively, I think this general would've petered out long ago.
