At first I thought that maybe this whole part of the arc was some kind of reference to some other Trek thing because the rest of it had been so far but aside from the burrowing worms that reminded me of Devil in the Dark I really can't think of how this is similar to anything. They didn't need this plot about Jhamel trying to save Gareb or whatever. They didn't need the pilot to be some new race they just made up. It could have been a Vulcan. It should have been a Vulcan. Rommies torturing and killing a Vulcan would have hit way different, especially given the previous arc reveal. It could have been T'Pol that saves the day instead of her trying it once and giving up. She's the character they love to make suffer anyway. Also it was silly how they just magically slapped together their own drone pilot setup but whatever. So yeah. What were they thinking?
