the region lock, this is a weird story but there is a mostly valid reason they've kept it this way.
To explain, GBF is ***OFFICIALLY SPEAKING*** only available in Japan and the game's complete English localization is for "English-speaking Japanese residents". The main reason for this is because GBF has a lot of collaboration content with stories and characters, and all that content is still in the game with a fair bit of it permanently available for all players. To release the game *officially* internationally, they'd have to renegotiate contracts for every single license they have for every region, which can be a nightmare for certain brands. To get around this, the game is only released in Japan but no effort has been made at all to prevent playing it anywhere else.
