The counterpart to Bellsprout comes a bit later in Johto, and offers similar things but with HP drain and a more even stat spread. Also a split evo which is cool. Somehow the new guy Bellossom is once again more boring in its utility than the old reliable Vileplume, but if you want Grass and you didn't get any of the prior guys, here's another choice.

Holy shit, he's Cursing! He's gonna fucking get you! Cursepoke is a menace, and having Surf and Psychic-type moves as further coverage on the special side is great. Water is such a good fucking type and always has so much representation in any given region, it's kind of unfair on some of the other types. ANOTHER split evo! But you're probably getting Slowbro unless you painstakingly set up the trade with a King's Rock. Both are essentially the same anyway, it's just a choice of Def or SpDef and aesthetics.
