thanks fren, i tried recuva but didn't really have luck, maybe because the drive is currently not partitioned due to what happened, but disk drill seems to be able to do the job without hostaging me for money after doing the whole hours long scan. it says i should recover to a different location, though, so i'll just see about getting another external hard drive to take the data from this one and then i can just repartition and reformat the original drive. while only losing a small portion of the data that was actually overwritten. also it's too bad you got your image perms removed, that sucks. i wonder if that happening to people is why this thread has died so hard
