I agree. Some spells like enlarge/reduce are perfectly fine as 1st level spells if you simply split them into the Enlarge spell, and the Reduce spell. In the setting I want to make, I split a lot of spells

>Enlarge: The target also has Advantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws and disadvantage on Dexterity checks and Dexterity saving throws. The target's attacks with its enlarged weapons or Unarmed Strikes deal an extra 2 damage on a hit.

>Reduce: The target also has Advantage on Dexterity checks and Dexterity saving throws and disadvantage on Strength checks and Strength saving throws. The target's attacks with its reduced weapons or Unarmed Strikes deal 2 less damage on a hit (this can't reduce the damage below 1).

personally I think an increased/decrease in damage die is more appropriate and less swingy, but that's not a common thing in 5e

Enhance ability is another spell from 2014 that had a lot of flavor, which 2024 took a dumb on. I split it into 6 spells I think they were originally their own spell in 3.5e, but I changed some animals because a 1st level spell slot is much easier to throw away compared to a second level spell slot. I also buffed them and incorporated them into my world. Every player (and 95% of people in the world) can cast one of these spells targeting themselves once a day based on the month they were born.
