No. Its very much a current generation Hollywood phenomenon. Hollywood has converted to a cult which is incredibly uptight and preachy about anything that contradicts the new orthodoxy so now you have them all scrambling to demonstrate how virtuous they are by trying to atone for their past sins against dogma. They're basically a gay, feminist version of the uptight church ladies of the 80s and 90s only now instead of wanting to teach kids about Jesus they want to teach them about gender bending.
