The problem with Suselle is that it's written like a stereotypical bad straight couple in kids' media. Susie is basically the dense male main character who's supposed to get the girl because yes, and Noelle takes the role of being a super giga simp whose existance becomes gravitating towards Susie whenever they're close. Toby made the deliberate choice of making Noelle not take part in the adventure as a de-facto party member, therefore alienated from the action and the good bonding Susie does with every other character. Well, then, that doesn't have to be a huge problem because Susie can still bond with her in the light world, but again their time together is actually very limited. And it's made worse that Noelle's development in the normal Suselle route is very much a "tell" against the Weird Route's "show". You're supposed to believe she's improving because she's monologuing in a cutscene saying Susie makes her feel better. Make matters worse, some of their most interesting dialogue people don't even get to see because you have to stay still during the Soul segments in Noelle's house.
