Gen 6 is very bogdown standard despite Megas and it's also a mess, the meta shifted from stall to hyper offense on a hat while it was still live, I have no idea about how it is these days or if anyone plays it. Full power Talonflame is iconic for a good reason, I think people overblew it way too hard in terms of how bonkers it was, so much so that Gamefreak was confirmed to have designed Alolan Graveler specifically to counter it.
Clefable turning into a Fairy type was a curse that soon became apparent and there's some other things, Knock Off spam is really prevalent in this gen, more than any other.
>Gen 7 is powercreept incarnate, the meta is a fucking mess, far too many broken Pokemon running around and Toxapex, some of the UBs and some other fuckers like the Mega Zards running around OU means it's just a blatantly awful format sometimes, gen 7 UU though is actually really fun, it's also explosive and has a ton of really dumb stuff, but the sheer amount of experimentation and unique stuff you can run there is great.

Most of the broken sweepers got banned and the generation turned into stall hell, HDB existing means hazards are practically pointless and Teleport getting buffed was outright a really retarded idea given the catasthrophic effect it had on the meta, I haven't tried most gen 8 formats besides OU and I tried gen 8 OU when it was still fresh and Dynamax was around, it was awful, nothing short of completely awful, then I played it way later after all the bans were handed, it was still not very fun, the Pokemon cuts left some horrible vacuums in place, despite all the issues, it's supposedly a pretty stable meta according to one anon I talked to a few days back.

The problems with gen 4 mold the meta into an uniquely retarded state of things, a lot of stuff got banned for really shitty reasons, one of them being Froslass getting banned because of Snow Cloak.
