Minecraft went bad simply because they chose the cheapest improvement.
Not the improvement that went with the main interest.

It's the leading problem behind most franchise.
They know what players want, but they don't want or can't do the change.
Like say, Bethesda, their engine is crap, but they don't want to spend the money making something up to modern standard.
