The best analogy is that roblox was born in the generation of free flash games, people hosted them to gain revenue from advertisement purposes, and that was comparable to what roblox was doing then, giving people tools to make games for them and have fun. Then Roblox leaned in hard into their mobile support and it is now comparable to what you expect browsing any game in an app store, micro transactions everywhere and clones of games trying to mislead you trying to get the real thing for free. Roblox is now a mobile gaming platform less than it is a PC or console one.
But I have respect for those trying to not to gamepasssify their own games, and sticking to not locking behind content to a paywall.
