You just can't auto-battle now
They did remade crit system, but it is a nothingburger. You don't have control over crits, they're still random. But you can see when your or enemie's next attack is a crit. Oh and you can see enemy action bar now too.
It's more of a UI rework and not gameplay one. But crits do work now both on damage and heal and on items as well.
And to make gameplay "more difficult" some encounters have more enemies than before and game some new abilities ( they're nothingburger most of the time ).
Literally nothing else. There is no elements type interactions, elemental damage is still useless as it is in no way different to other damage types. Items have now downsides to make you equip different things. You still use your high damage ability and heal hp/cp on demand. That's it, not real gameplay improvements in battle.
But hey, they did completely gut Flesh Maze Tango music puzzle, so battle gameplay is technically better than puzzle gameplay so far.
