The Shot Heard 'Round the World
October 11, 1935

The Empire is aflame.

Imperial Britain faces its greatest crisis since the Great War as her North American territories declare independence from the Crown. The world watches as the Atlantic fractures under the weight of revolution.

From the Pacific Northwest, to Ottawa, to Philadelphia, to Nouvelle Orleans, American-Canadian forces have seized British armories and fortresses across North America, with shots being fired off in New England against British soldiers. Marines landed and stormed Fort Sumter at the entrance of Charleston Harbor, quickly enveloping the small British garrison and forcing their surrender by bayonet. The American-Canadian governments have issued mobilization decrees, and thousands of soldiers line up at rally points for the war against the Empire.

New England has joined Imperial Britain, which London will remember after the war. The British Expeditionary Force, which was transferred to the Bahamas last month, is being deployed immediately to New England to take up defensive positions against the American and Canadian forces.

For years, tensions have simmered under the surface of the Empire. The election of the Brownshirts in London in contrast to the Progressives elected in Philadelphia encouraged further conflict. Britain's resistance to reform, instead demanding that the Americas adopt the British pound as its currency and enacting other measures to restrict the autonomy of the Americas, has angered the Americas division of the Commonwealth.

Automats are being deployed, Imperial soldiers march into position, and the Empire prepares for a lengthy war. A defeat in North America would mean not just the loss of territory, but the loss of Britain’s claim to global hegemony.

The Imperial Navy has blockaded North America. General Bernard Montgomery has begun drafting plans for offensives first into Canada and then into the American colonies. Imperial Britain is shifting into a war footing.
