I don't get it and anons do correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't ID Software like the original Doom games make their products open source or something, as if your free to do whatever you want with is as long as your cite the original creators? Isn't this a way to preserve games?
Just a flash thought but assuming if cooperations want to take down a game's live service, just release its source to the public? Like this game is almost 10 years old and it's online-only so maybe when the game turns 15 after EA finds it no longer profitable due to newer products, just release it and let private servers handle them so diehard fans could continue to enjoy the game?
