Abrams' ult is a noob trap, same with his melee build. I'd prefer to use it a surprise tool in the middle of the teamfight when the enemy least expects it.
Also yes, first few weeks playing this game are truly miserable, I suggest you play with bots for a while, try different builds there and then go with the one which feels the most natural to use for you. For example, I tried every build on Abrams for some time, realised they all suck and going full gun instead.
Things will get better, here's what helped me personally to start having fun in this game:
>play with bots
>watch a bunch of guides on macro
>focus on pushing lanes
>find and pin down whoever is the most fed carry on the enemy team
>dedicate one-two slots to counter the enemy team comp or whoever is the most annoying fag on the enemy team
>mute every non-eng speaker instantly
