In my experience
>go through gate, left staircase
>either jump down into middle or run straight along left side path
>either eventually leads you to a big room with an astel larva
>if you went high jump into the little sluice on your right which is where the lower path leads, either comes out in the crater beneath the larva with basilisks
>run through that door and past all the basilisks until you find a spiritstream
>take it up, jump into the small canal and kill the Headless Troll phantom
>jump back to where you were and run up the stairs, kill the Black Knife on the way
>cross the bridge, up the stairs, can either ignore or kill the two knights there
>run into the chapel and fight the real deal Astel
>once he's dead go to the little altar at the far back of his room, get your revive buff, and then run out
>if you have time you can jump straight down past the grace there and kill the Dragonkin Soldier
>you are now back in the big canal from the start, take a straight shot towards the back and there's a crumbling back that gets you back to the door where you came in
I've never done the right path and have no idea what's there, but this is how the left path usually goes. Just reciting it from memory so some details may be a bit off.
