the stern went down too quickly with air pockets still inside and it took about 2 minutes to reach the bottom. there were people inside their rooms basically in free fall in the pitch black for probably 45 seconds at least before the pressure got too much and the air pockets imploded. that's why the stern is blown out compared to the bow; it had a lot of mini implosions similar to the retarded titan sub
