Kris being soulless for their whole life would imply that they were a total sociopath like Flowey before we came along. That's simply not true, we know that Kris loves Asriel and their family and friends. They were a devious prankster who would cause problems and misbehave but they never hurt anybody.
It also more obviously raises the question of how Kris would even be alive, and who "Kris" is, when we know that the SOUL is the source of a person's life force and identity.

Kris has an established relationship with Susie and they quickly bond as two weird kids. Ralsei doesn't really bond with Kris until the swan ride in Chapter 2, Kris just doesn't make friends as easily as Susie and Ralsei who are both desperate to make friends. By Chapter 4 Kris clearly considers Ralsei a friend and won't let you be so cruel to him anymore.
