Kruschev coupes the Soviet government and began a series of revisionist policies and this was exacerbated by Brezhenev giving the go ahead for the Kosygin reforms which birthed the reformist wing of the CCCP which grew under Andropov’s tenure.

Party bureaucrats and the military prioritized computer technology towards missile systems development instead of improving the efficiency of GOSPLAN and this the OGAS was never implemented.

The increasing reliance on the Soviet economy on market forces made them vulnerable to the oil market shift during the 80s which coupled with Gorbachev’s pro-western sentiments allowed separatist movements and organized crime to grow until Yeltsin and his gang of liberals finally overthrew the entire government and dissolved the union.

This is a vast oversimplification but basically the rot started with krushchev (read ‘Kruschev lied’ for more on this) but it wasn’t totally unsalvageable until Gorbachev sent the country on a path of no return.
