From Software forgets or actively rejects their deft wielding of imagery and crafting encounters from those early games, especially the first Dark Souls. Remember that dread, minor or major, from seeing that shape under the water of the drowned section of the Shadow Keep? And then you drain the area, and it's a fucking Ulcerated Tree Spirit. Holy shit, how tone deaf can a developer be? Who, after the 9 or so in the base game, was looking forward to fighting another?

These fuckups on their part give me hope, however, because the perfect Souls game still has yet to be made. A game that doesn't wane in enemy variety at the end, or have giant empty open spaces, or nonsensical crap like teleporting from the Forge of the Giants to Farum Azula because the game needed to be finished and the devs needed to get the player to Farum Azula somehow.
