Honestly this portion of the story is difficult to explain, it's told over a bunch of flashbacks and I'll omit some important stuff that isn't strictly relevant
>She claims to have a spirtiual connection to what I would describe as "the life stream of reality" (or something like that)
>She was a runaway when she dissappeared, got kidnapped by Jason Isaacs and subjected to experimentation for his pseudo spirit-science research
>She dies during one of these experiment and reconnects to her past life/outside of normal reality memories (I might be misremembering) and once revived her vision is healed
>etc. etc. etc. She acquires the knowledge of these moves from this experience and eventually was able to escape
>As the time of the school shooting draws near the veracity of this bizarre story is called into question (outside of the obvious fact that it sounds like nonsense) and some members of this group lose faith in what they've been taught really meaning anything

The group realises what they've preparing for is a corporeal threat and the shared glances denote an unspoken communication of this realisation that someone who'd watched the series up to this point would simultaneously be realising. I liked the show, season 2 goes off the fucking reserve though (pic related).
