The writers probably thought they were being clever by satirizing real life. One of a leftist’s biggest triggers is someone saying, “We should hear what all sides have to say first,” because in their mind there are some groups of people you should never hear out or platform (i.e. anyone they perceive as a Nazi). So the show writers probably thought they were adequately portraying Ian as a naive fool by suggesting such as obvious bad thing, but any audience this show would have is too dumb to see that’s what they were going for. You can’t even portray a “villain” as a bad guy anymore, because even being the devil’s advocate is equivalent to the writer endorsing those beliefs.

Because it went off the rails, its not really surprising. Not much exposure either.

I only knew about it since I randomly had someone recommend it after the second season had finished.
idk how else people were meant to hear about it

first season was solid, good dynamic, some good jokes, fairly tight.
second season was okay too, clearly stretching the premise a little but there was still a lot to work with, even if it wasn't great.
only watched a bit of the third season (2 ep I think? stopped midway through the 3rd or smt) and they pretty much doubled down the worst parts of season 2 and I just stopped watching

honestly surprised it got a 4th season, but I wouldn't be surprised if s3 and s4 were approved at the same time after s2 or after they sharted s3 they had "another chance" and fucked it up again so it got dropped.
I don't think something can survive backing 2 back to back bad seasons in the modern day.

I like that not only everyone is always nazis, but also how deathly afraid these people are of accidentally creating something that's appealing to players that aren't their exact social bubble and that these players enjoy something in a way they didn't specifically intend. This goes like a red thread through all their games, where for example certain characters get shit on/changed/replaced/removed, because they accidently created one that appealed to an audience they don't like (like what happened to characters from The Last of Us to it's sequel and then the tv show).

Only if they didn’t shove everything into season 3 like a damn clown car. Half these shows start off decent, find their footing by season 2, and then rush to tie every thread into a “subversive” twistfest before the budget gets cut. 4 seasons is respectable numerically, but that doesn’t mean the show didn’t nosedive halfway through like so many others.

Take Joel and Ellie, who funnily enough where pretty popular with the mainstream back then. Problem is Joel was a white male father figure and Ellie a kinda cute daughter figure. Then the dlc and sequel came and that old mainstream audience wasn't good enough anymore, so under the bus they went. Joel gets immediately ceremonially killed off by the manbeast and Ellie gets send on her ultra diversity and suffering rollercoaster, where you are supposed to empathize with Joel's killer (which much of the TLoU1 audience rightfully did not). Then the tv show, that had to double-triple down, so not even Joel is white anymore and Ellie is un-appeal-ified and played by moonface (a terrible fate Joel's real daughter who was also popular for the wrong reasons shared). The funny thing is, you can see that it mostly hits the characters the wrong audiences gave a shit about, because in a mysterious reversal the big nosed jeet gf and manbeast from the game can suddenly be played by appealing actresses in the tv show.
