plebbit is not the default IPFS client, it's a custom IPFS client, when reading/posting in a community, you are a peer and seeding for that community, unless you specifically turn this off. Similar to how bittorrent clients work, you are seeding by default, unless you turn that off. And bittorrent has enough people that don't turn it off, plebbit is the same.

there's no concept of "pinning" in plebbit, that's something that only exist in the official ipfs client.
