If the toughness thing bugs you that much it easy to switch around in the FCS a load only the Milk Pump or Cheese mod find the pump in the furniture category and switch the skill to what ever you like

I have been in a pretty similar boat of the game annoying me but not wanting to bothering attempting to fix anything it was just the resident doomer triggered a spite response, its so far both easier and harder cobbling together things from existing assets is a lot easier than I thought but I have jet to create wholly new assets
