>What did you like about 4e specifically?
Lorewise, it was a fresh take on fantasy classes that didn't need to throw it all out and start over. Specifically, it sidestepped the tired fighter vs wizard bitchfests by making Martial its own power source, the equivalent of Magic and Divinity. 4e had literal muscle wizards and shit, it was great.
Mechanics-wise, the character builder gave you tremendous freedom to fuck about making a dude who could do a quirky thing without begging the DM for permission to houserule it. Fun build examples included the Lazy Warlord (who'd take all the powers that would give your allies bonus actions and never do anything yourself) and the Laser Cleric, who'd take all the ray spells and pew pew.
