glad to know im not alone. im going to get some games in, even if its with myself, of 3.0 as im sure i can at least learn things from its gameplay and design choices. ultimately i just wanna write lore for mydudes, convert more magos for my mech and have the motivation of game day to paint my models, play with my little army mans and have game days at my buddies basement.
all 3 editions have things that can/should be "fixed" to best placate a game group. part of me just thinks about writing my own heresy ruleset for fun, i like making homebrew rules or expansions and little rulesets as a hobby anyways. Been playing alot of 5th edition, and writing a codex for it has really made me think more and more about making my group our own heresy ruleset.
Im still getting a liber mechanicum book from my lfgs, if nothing else then just to have next to the 2.0 mess of a book, the red book and the black books on my shelf.

1) yeah the melee in 2nd ed blows hot ass as mech. my castellax kill more via detonation than by swinging. ive played plenty of 2nd ed games using the old WS chart like >>96061548 mentions and it does help a surprising amount.
2) like you mention a huge issue is the anti-mech slander of 2nd ed with their change to krak grenades being automata poppers. i like your suggestions for changing them. no auto hits is huge but so would making them breaching 5+.
3) myrimadon secs def could use going to 3W imo, phased plasma having gets hot is abhorrent to lore and gameplay. id honestly make it so gets hot is not at weapon AP, just feels silly and extra punishing to non marinefags. Destructors on the otherhand i feel like should get their power fist back, or at least count it as a servo arm, goddamn
4) totally agree. the faq fucked up mech play bigtime in that reguard. mech players should want to fuck around with their technomagic bullshit. frankly, i miss the chance of awakening a robot's malefic AI
