Legretta initially tried to kill Van because her brother died in battle under him, a field operation the higher ups knew they would lose but went ahead with it anyways because it was written in the Score. Van convinced her the Score itself was to blame, and after getting close to him she fell in love. It was only later down the line that she learned her falling for Van was also written in the Score which made her hate it even more and wish for its destruction. That way, if the Score's destruction made the love disappear she'd be able to kill Van and avenge her brother, while if her love remained, she'd known for sure it was true love.
