In ancient egypt silver was more valuable than gold because it was rarer
in ancient egypt meteorite iron was more valuable than gold or silver
in the 1800's aluminum was more valuable than gold. Eventually the price declined to around the value of silver. Then it very suddenly dropped to almost nothing.
