With Rainbow, I think it's more so a case of loyalty being more difficult to portray in a mostly slice of life low stakes show. Not impossible, just not as simple to write as a lesson about kindness perhaps. If FiM was a bit edgier (like if season 1 followed Faust's original plan) then Rainbow Dash probably would have had a lot more opportunities to display her loyalty explicitly and in dramatically compelling ways.

One thing I will give Rainbow Dash though is that she always backs up Fluttershy no matter what. She can be brash and dismissive sometimes, but she is very loyal to her oldest friend.
