My mom divorced when I was 10. She went back to school and got her BS while putting up with my BS. She did not let me sit around. She put me in Little League, track, and came to my games & meets. All good foundation. But, that only goes so far. At some point after high school you have to start charting your own path. Sit idle, nothing happens. Do something, anything, and start creating your own reality. You're correct, it is adapt or die. Quit accepting loser status, let someone else be one.
