Combat is the ultimate surrogate activity, but it is the most authentic surrogate activity in which it is actually possible to complete the power process by participating. So many people who experience real fighting don't want to return to normal life especially if they don't get their ass whipped. The glory of winning a real fight is something indescribable. It is like being addicted to horror movies. Extreme sports are boring in comparison. I understand why Alexander the Great kept going until he was killed. Him and I both know he was never going home. He was not just going to go back to Athens to party with stupid hoes and pretend like this is a real experience. When Caesar returned to Rome he wasn't just going to wait outside and camp in the bushes.
