It's not semantics, it's not "mid-wittatry" either. It is very important to the discussion, because you said you want people to "flourish", I'm saying that's totally un-definable and a moot point. A thief "flourishes" when he steals a lot of stuff from you. A murderer would "flourish" when he gets to kill a lot of people and get away with it, for example. Your reference to "flourishing" comes awfully close to utilitarianism which is obviously an insane ideology.
