The outer gods are more like kami from shintoism. Nature and elemetal spirits embodying concepts and emotional states.

Nobody knows about the GW, but I like to think it's still there, but realized how it fucked up by interacting with the world and creating imbalance, so stopped interacting. Or it wants its creation to act on its own.
Either way *something* activates Metyr's microcosm when she starts to die, and I doubt it's her since she's dying. GW stepping in to teleport its daughter away at the last second
