As someone who's been a Mike denier since Chapter 2 the bit Tenna does with it works really well. There's nothing wrong with taking inspiration from your fans like any other source, as long as it works. Every story is a living thing until it's written down.
I believe the success of Deltarune is rooted in the auteur spirit, Toby's vision shining through it all, but it's that vision that shapes the work born from the many other works that shaped Toby in turn. That's simply the nature of creative work, there is no pure and monolithic uncreated vision.
