I genuinely do think it. I've thought DK looked "off" for a while now, but it was always in the background of my thoughts, this thing that I never imagined they'd try to fix, so I just ignored it. I was used to it. But the new design brings all my annoyances to the surface in a clear way.
He looks ridiculous in 3D much of the time. The Rare solution worked within its design constraints (2D platformer on the SNES), but it's a crapshoot as to whether a 3D artist will fuck him up or not. His face is a sensitive issue, get the rendering wrong or the eyes a bit too big and you end up with his Ultimate render.
