I think this is a big issue that's kept me from finding Beth titillating all these years. She hardly reads as a 'mom character' outside of the aforementioned Planetina ending, maybe one or two moments in S1 back when the Smiths were just standard sitcom tropes, and the "bad memories" in Total Rickall. Beth is way more defined by her daddy issues than by her role as the family matriarch.
